Sometimes I get to do sessions that are a little outside the box for me. Recently I had the opportunity to partner with a fabulous local costume designer with Plume Boutique for an AMAZING Lolita dress that she designed. Lolita is a fashion subculture from Japan. It is highly influenced by Victorian and Edwardian children’s clothing and styles from the Rococo period. In general, Lolita fashion tends to imitate Victorian-style girl’s clothing and often aims to imitate the look of Victorian porcelain dolls. The costumes are often worn by young women to anime conventions and similar events. This particular dress just happened to fit my youngest daughter, which made finding a model easy. And luckily for us, she corners the market on looking “doll-like”.
We started at the studio for costuming, hair and make-up, and then off we went to the Tualatin Hills Nature Park. I loved how this red Lolita dress pops in a background of greens and browns. Can you believe all that ribbon edging is hand pleated? Amazing!
I am looking forward to dreaming up more shoots like this in the future with this talented designer. And the opportunity to use my own daughter as a model makes it that much more fun!
